We just got back from our first ever Swenson Family Camping Trip. That's right first ever. This family has never been camping...well unless you count taking a luxurious trailer to Outdoor Resorts as camping. This was a "campground" consisting of a lot of concrete, 8 pools, tennis courts, a golf course, and no dirt. Nick would say that does not count.
If you have been reading this blog, you will know that this camping trip was supposed to be the Carmack Family Camping Trip. However, as time went on, the number of Carmacks going on this trip dwindled...until the only Carmacks actually going on the trip were Swensons. So, we will try again next year with the rest of the Carmacks, but we Swensons sure had a lot of fun!
Day One:
It was a bit chaotic, but everything worked out just fine. By the time we got to Lodgepole, our first choice of campgrounds, the ranger at the site not-so-kindly told us it was full. This was a little bit of a dilemna because we were all driving in separate cars at separate times, and without cell phone service. So, we came up with a plan to leave a sign for the others telling them where to meet us. During his attempt to post the sign, Nick spoke with the not so pleasant ranger again. The ranger let him know that we could check back at 3:00 to see if there were any cancellations, but he was not very helpful about the whole posting the sign situation. So, my mom and I decided to use our skills of charm and beauty to try to talk to the ranger about posting the sign, because he was clearly not a fan of men. Lo and behold, what do you know...as soon as we walked up to the window, he informed us that a campsite just opened up and was available for US....and he was above and beyond nice! Like I said, charm and beauty!
So, problem solved! We spent the rest of the day setting up camp, hiking to the General Sherman...the largest living tree in the world, and sitting around the campfire.
Part Two coming soon....
