Thanksgiving 2014

Thanksgiving this year was lovely. It was a small (to us) and laid back gathering of family. There was no shortage of food, and there was an overabundance of pies, which is never bad and provided me with breakfast for the next week. The awesome thing about hosting is that you get to keep most of the leftovers, and so I have decided that I will henceforth and forevermore always host this fabulous holiday.  Hear ye, family of mine, Thanksgiving will be at my house ALWAYS (whether you like it or not!).
When it's 82 degrees on Thanksgiving Day, eating outside is a necessity. The food was delicious, and Silas was a fan of all of it. Particularly, he enjoyed the orange jello with cool whip the most. He would quickly devour all that was put on his tray then demand more immediately. Sadly, my sister, Amy, burnt her hands on a pan that had just come out of the oven. Kim, another sister, laughed hysterically at her when it happened, not realizing that Amy was in excruciating pain. Amy was pretty much paralyzed the rest of the night (because we Swensons are not dramatic at all) and Kim spent the rest of the evening trying to atone for her laughter by looking up home remedies online and creating all sorts of concoctions to put on Amy's burned hands.
After dinner, Some of the boys participated in a rousing game of Irish darts, which consists of knocking a beer bottle off of a PVC pipe with a frisbee. We dove into the assortment of pies on hand, and then some of the girls participated in a rousing game of Settlers, because best game ever. We all enjoyed watching the 49ers play, even though we did not enjoy watching them lose. Then it was time for everyone to go home, and there were lots of dishes left in my kitchen for me to clean. Oh yeah, I forgot about that part when I started writing this. I'm going to have to rethink paragraph one of this post.
This was only about half the pies.
It was a very happy Thanksgiving, and I am thankful to have such wonderful people to share the day with.
