remembering

Today I found myself in the kitchen frustrated at my sickness and my messy house and my poopy dog who ate my sunglasses this morning, and I wished that my husband was home.  Then I started thinking about how awful it would be if he wasn't coming home.  If he never came home.  Then I remembered the date.  And I thought about how that scenario was a reality for so many people ten years ago today....all the husbands, wives, moms, brothers, dads, sisters who never came home.  It still blows my mind that that day even happened.

So today I can't help but feel thankful for my fortune.  That my husband is coming home to me tomorrow.  That my sister and brother-in-law came home to us for the weekend.  That we got to go "home" to Grandma's for Sunday night dinner tonight.  But, my heart hurts for everyone whose loved ones never came home that day.
"No, despite all these things, overwhelming victory is ours through Christ, who loved us.  And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God's love.  Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow-not even the powers of hell can separate us from God's love.  No power in the sky above or in the earth below-indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord."

Romans 8:38-39
