Shelf Help

I have mentioned before that we are redoing our master bathroom (along with everything else in the house).  And I gave you a little sneak peak at our new mirror frame that Nick built from our old broken fence.  Well, there was some fence left over, so we decided to make use of it for another bathroom project.
Nick came up with this whole design by himself.
I LOVE it!  I decorated it and hung some towels on it, and suddenly, this bathroom is my favorite room in the house.
The complete reveal of the bathroom will be coming soon, once we do all those little last minute things.  (Which means that "soon" may not be so soon.)

this weekend....

We lounged around the house and had a movie night with the dogs...
Except "we" was more like "me" because Nick sat on the couch while I lounged with the dogs.
This went well until I discovered that Brontie was secretly chewing on the duvet.  Cleaning up all those feathers and attemtping to "mend" the duvet were not the hightlights of my weekend.
But, snuggling with these two was....

We also had a preview services for our church's new campus in Orange...
For those that don't know, Nick is the communuty life pastor for this new campus, so this was an exciting weekend.  We officially launch on Nov. 6.  Yay!

We (my sisters and I) also put some cupcake kits in our etsy shop....
Yes, I know...Halloween is just around the corner, and these will probably not sell.  But, we had them made, so we wanted to get them on there.  You can check out the whole package here in our etsy shop.

And, we watched a whole lot of baseball...

This World Series is goooooooood.  So, if you don't mind, I will get back to watching game 5.
GO RANGERS!

Biking with my iPhone

Last week, Nick discovered a really cool trail right by our house.  It overlooks all of San Juan Capistrano and goes all the way to the beach (if you really want to go that far).
So, we decided to hop on our bikes and explore the trail a bit.  We didn't even have to drive there!
Nick waiting at the top of the hill for me....I'm a little more out of biking shape than I realized.
We had a view of all of San Juan Capistrano.
And Laguna Niguel
I'm still learning where to look on the iPhone camera.

Nick went out again yesterday to ride his bike there.  He didn't ask me to come.  Hmmm....

Some Halloween Art

Here we have some stained glass pumpkins which were made by my class last week (thanks to my mother-in-law, who gave me the art lesson for these).
These are very easy to make, and so pretty.  Here's what you have to do to make them:
1. Take a black sheet of construction paper and trace a pumpkin using glue from a glue bottle, including all those lines down the middle of the pumpkin.
2. Let the glue dry over night.
3.  Use oil pastels to color the different sections of your pumpkins.
4.  Laminate (not essential, but does make them look more stained glass"ish".)
**The key is finding glue that dries completely clear.  If you get the wrong kind of glue, it dries white, and it is not nearly as pretty.
The kids also glittered some bats to add to our little pumpkin patch.
Then we attempted to make pumpkins like the ones here on Kristina's blog.  They didn't quite turn out like that, but they still made some cute garland around the room.

Plum Paper Giveaway Winner!

I wanted to come up with some really creative way to choose a winner from the giveaway, but my brain was lacking creativity, so that did not really happen.
So, here is how it all went down....
I wrote all your names down on slips of paper....so original, I know.
Then I put them all on the floor in front of my dogs, in hopes that they would choose one.  They didn't.  They just stared at me like I was an idiot.

So, instead, I decided to stuff you all in a gourd.
And shake you all up.
Then, I set you up all nice and cute on my wine rack, while I waited until Nick was ready to choose a winner.

Then Nick came along and dumped you all out with his eyes closed and his hand open, hoping one of you would fall into his hand.
And only one of you did.
YAY! Congratulations Heather!
(Email me your address and the cards you want so Plum can send them out to you!)

And, since you got a glimpse at a bit of my fall decorations, I may as well show you some more from around my house.
I made this paper leaf garland for fall to replace the other garland I used.
Can you tell that I am enjoying the newness of my iPhone. I am playing around with all the different picture apps. So fun!
Thanks to everyone who entered the giveaway! It was a lot of fun, and we will have to do another one very soon!

River Rats

Amy, Kim, two of my aunts, and I took a quick weekend trip out to Arizona to visit my parents.  Grandma just so happened to be staying with my aunt Sandy out there already, so we got to hang out with them as well.  It was a mini family reunion, and poor Dad was the only male member of the family represented.
The weekend consisted of squished together driving:
(and taking lots of pictures with our new iPhones)

Thrift store shopping:
(Except, this particular store was not a thrift store after all.  It was a Christian bookstore.  Who would have thought?)

Being river rats:
Being blown in the wind:
And lots of dominoes:
Our friend, Linda, who we had not seen in forever, was at the river this weekend, so we spent much of Saturday out on her boat with her.  It was very fun.  You may notice a sister missing.  Don't feel too sorry for her.  She is voyaging along the canals of England as we speak.  We did miss her though.

Thanks to everyone who entered the giveaway!  I will announce the winner tonight or tomorrow.

Nick's Backpacking Trip

Back in September, Nick went backpacking on the Sierra High Route with some of his old friends.  His friend Trystan is a really good photographer, as you can see from these pictures.  So, I thought I would share some of their trip.
Ready to hit the trail...seven miles (mostly on trails) and more than 5,000 feet of climbing would lead us to our first campsite at 10,400'.
Nick taking in one of our first expansive views of the High Sierra above Grouse Lake.
After threatening thunderstorms and rain seemingly spun around us throughout the afternoon, our second evening on the trail proved to be a nice one.
Good walking in Granite Basin.

Where's Pat? And Nick?

After a bit of snow and mostly rain throughout the night, the following morning was quite nice in Upper Basin. We had camped less than a mile from the John Muir Trail and we planned to spend the next two days hiking 30 miles via trails back to Road's End.
Group shot...what a beautiful morning!

I am so very excited about this!  My talented sister, who is the creator, owner, and operator extraordinaire of Plum Paper, has completely revamped her whole website and blog and wanted to do a giveaway to show it off and celebrate.

Here is what she is giving away:
Plum is giving away 2 packs of note cards to one lucky winner. The winner can choose 2 designs from any of our great options on our website here. Each pack comes with a set of 12 folded note cards and 12 gray envelopes. We have personalized and generic cards to choose from. Give them as a gift or personalize them for yourself.

If you want to win, you can have up to four chances!
Each of the following options are good for one entry.

1. Become a follower of the Plum Paper Blog and comment that you did.   It's easy...just click "join this site" in the sidebar.
