Because Breast Feeding Obviously Isn't Happening.....

I recently stumbled across some cool bottles for formula fed babies.  Since my body is currently unable to participate in it's womanly duties, we will definitely be using formula.  I thought about doing this for a little while, but I don't think my hormones need any more messing with at this point.  They've been a bit on edge these last couple of years, and I'm over fighting with them.  So, formula it is.

I'll admit...I've been a little intimidated by the whole "breast is best" propaganda these days, the Time magazine covers with the "Are you Mom enough?" tagline, and all the proud breast-feeding moms out there who like to get up on their soap boxes.  And there is a part of me that understands it.  If we ever do have a biological child, I would want to try breast feeding.  I just don't feel the need to advocate one way or the other.  It's a choice, and sometimes, it's not a choice. So let people figure it out for themselves.

I LOVE this post that puts into perspective these mommy war topics.

And I like this post on formula feeding and why it is not from the devil.

That being said, I did a little search for some things that could come in handy when we start this whole formula feeding frenzy.  The majority of these items clearly do not apply solely to formula feeders, but a couple of them do.

  1. I read this earlier and, when reading your post, was reminded of it. I love the sentiment: who are we to judge how a mother feeds her child. I swear, it's not spam. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/08/01/i-support-you-breastfeeding-_n_3685881.html

  2. I love this post Mindy! I also loved that post by Kristen Howerton about the Mommy Wars... It gets pretty ridiculous sometimes. I think it's awesome that you even considered breastfeeding as most adoptive parents probably wouldn't even do that. In the end, you decided what is best for your family and that's the most important thing. Formula is not evil. You are going to be giving your baby so much love and nurturing that this whole issue will be moot anyway.
