California Wall

Back in April, I bought myself this print for my birthday:

And it inspired me to do a California wall in our house.  Pretty much all of the traveling that Nick and I have done together has been to different places in our very own state. So, it seemed fitting to do this wall, considering that we have tons of picture of these adventures.

It was quite a process to complete it.  I couldn't just hang the frames up on the wall without laying it all out to see how I wanted it to look.  So, I pulled out an old roll of Christmas wrapping paper to help me out.  Here's how it all went down:

1. I laid out the wrapping paper on my dining room table.

2. I traced all the frames out onto the paper and labeled each section of the paper with the size of the frame. 

3. I cut all those shapes out.

4. Then, discovered that since they had been living all rolled up, they were not going to sit flat for me.  So, I ironed them...ughh.

5.  I arranged and rearranged the wrapping paper on the wall around the California print, until I got it positioned to my liking.

6.  Then, I nailed the frames to the wall.

I found the quail picture in a random ABC animal pack by Martha Stewart that was on sale for a dollar.  I made the whale by cutting it out of fabric and embroidering it onto the blue.  Both the quail and the whale are state symbols of California, in case you didn't know.

I must say, I am quite pleased with how the wall turned out....other than the one picture that has nothing to do with California and is turned sideways.  Can you spot it?  Apparently, I can't count, and I developed the wrong number of pictures.  We'll see how long it is before I actually do something about that.
