Happy 21st Birthday Kimmy Joy!

Sister #4 is 21 today!
It is really hard to believe.  She grew up way too fast.
And she got way too pretty.
Tonight we are going to Parrrteeey.....vegas style!
I'm sure there is going to be a very long post in store for this party.
I love you Kimmy!
Thanks for always bringing entertainment into our lives!

Junk Drawer

When Kim was living with us, she complained A LOT about our junk drawer (among other things....she can be a bit of a complainer as you may have read.) It WAS really bad.  It was overflowing so much that you had to pull on it really hard to even get it open because everything in it was getting stuck when it was being rolled out.  And every time I opened the cupboards below it, I would find surprise junk drawer items that had slipped out of the back of the drawer and were resting in the salad bowls.
Anyways, I decided to clean that junk drawer out, and this is what it looks like now:
Isn't it pretty!?
And, I am proud to say that it has been about 2 weeks and it still looks exactly like this.
We'll see how long it lasts.

I am a copy cat

I saw this idea here and here and could not resist copying it.

Normally, I am not a fan of Valentine's Day decorations.
There is something about decorating with reds and pinks that I don't like.  (Though, you would think that I loved it since those are the colors I chose for my wedding).
But, when I saw this idea, I couldn't help myself.
I LOVE these hearts.
They are hanging in the window of our office right now, but Dottie Angel was right....these are highly addicting.  I loved them so much that I made more for our bedroom.
And then, I decided to make a modified version of them in my classroom.
I found some very old and very used Goosebumps books in my library to use to cut up these hearts. The fact that these books were falling apart and had been taped back together 500 times did not stop my students from being appalled that I was cutting up a book.   I had to explain to them that these books had a wonderful little life and were well loved as books and that it was now time for them to move on to their next life as heart garland.  It still took some of them a couple of days to mourn the loss of these books.  But, when I told them that they would get to be the ones doing the cutting, their sadness was over.  They have been cutting their little hearts out ever since (pun intended).
Since I do not keep a sewing machine in my classroom, I stapled the hearts onto yarn instead of sewing them.  I thought this would be easier and faster than sewing them anyway.  I was wrong.  Sewing them is WAY faster.  But, at least that is the only thing I have to do.  Thirty kids can cut out a lot of hearts, so I didn't have to do much of that at all.  And they are still going.  They want this heart garland to be all over the room.

(Don't tell them that I cut up brand new American Girl books from our library for my garland at home.  The pages were just so much prettier!)
And now I am a bit heart obsessed.  I am sewing fabric hearts tonight.  Hopefully they turn out.  I have never done that before.

Happy Birthday Brit!!!

Today Brittney is 30!!
She has to experience this painful day first.  This day where we leave behind our youthful years and enter into the world of old people.  But, isn't she a beautiful 30 year old?  I hope I can look as young as her when I turn 30.
And, during Brittney's 30th year in this world, she will be bringing a new little life into the world.
That's right!
Her and Matt are having a baby!
I am so excited for them.

I hope you don't mind that I just told the whole world your news, Brit.
(Because we both know that the whole world reads my blog. Seriously. Check out how many followers I have.)

Celebrating Birthdays

We went out to Haven in Old Town Orange on Sunday night to celebrate the births of Amy and Lynsey.
If you have not been here, you should go. You must try the Haven burger.  It is amazing!
The self timer shot was not a complete success, as some people are obviously missing their foreheads, but at least we got everyone in it.

Once again, I must give credit to Steve for all these pictures.  It's pretty nice to have my own personal photographer when he's around.

Also, check out the tutoring business that my mom and I started, Rise Above.  Click our picture in the sidebar and it will take you to our website.  If you know anyone who needs a tutor, you know who to call!

Joe and Emma are Engaged!

Joe flew Emma up to San Francisco on Friday for her birthday and PROPOSED!
While they were flying home, we all gathered at Joe's parents house to await their arrival.
Emma had no idea that so many people were waiting to surprise them.

I am so happy for them and can't wait for the wedding.
Congratulations Joe and Emma!

Post edit: I must give credit where credit is due.  My wonderful friend and up and coming photographer, Steve, took all these photos (minus the 1st and last, which were taken by Joe's sister in San Francisco).  I forgot to mention this when I first posted, so I apologize.

Happy Birthday Sister #2

Amy has entered the late twenties phase of life.  She tends to enter the phases of life that I am about to leave.  Like, she is starting her late twenties as I am about to leave them.
It all started when I was leaving the baby phase and entering toddlerhood, she was entering the earth and babyhood.
She was trying to steal my glory, and I didn't like it.
So, it was only logical that a couple days after her birth I got my toe cut off.
It was a success! The attention was back on me.
But, that's a story for another time.  But really I probably won't tell that story on this blog because then my mom would cry and then my dad would not be happy with me because I made her cry.
(You can ask me in person sometime if you don't already know the story.)
All that to say, I love my sister very much, and I am very glad that she entered the world.
I would lose a toe for her any day.
And, I have since gotten used to her infringing on my life phases.

HAPPY 27th BIRTHDAY AMY!!
See her birthday post from last year here.

Kristina the Brave

Come Thursday, sister number three will be embarking on an adventure that no one in her family has ever experienced. She will be venturing beyond the 45 minute comfort zone of family.  As I mentioned here, Kristina and Sean are moving to Atlanta.  Sean has already been there for a while, commuting back and forth between flying (he's a pilot if you did not know already), but now Kristina will be joining him (and Lily too).
They will be in the land of the Braves!
Which is not a bad place to be.
We are Braves fans, afterall.

Now, I must tell you a funny story about Kristina because it keeps popping into my mind lately.  This probably happened when I was in college and Kristina was in High School.

We drove home together one night, and when we arrived, noone else was home.  The house was locked (not typical) and neither of us had a key.  I figured that I would just climb through the dog door and unlock the door into the laundry room to get in the house.  Surprisingly, my hips were not fitting all the way through that door....this had not always been the case. Once I got over that disturbing shock,  I regrouped and squirmed and stretched until I maneuvered myself to be able to reach up to unlock the door.

Just as I was about to unlock it, a searing pain shot through my body as I felt Kristina's foot kicking my butt over and over again and whisper yelling my name in a panic.  I pulled myself out to see what was wrong, and Kristina told me that a light was on upstairs.  Not a big deal.  But, Kristina couldn't get it out of her head that maybe the light had just turned from off to on.  There must be someone up there.  I asked her if she saw the light turn on, or if maybe it had just been on all along.  She couldn't seem to remember if she saw it turn on, but the fact that it was on was enough to make her want to abandon our mission and sit in the car until someone got home (which was not any time soon)

Now Kristina was the person who had to have someone walk her out to her car (which was in the driveway) every time she left the house, because she could get kidnapped.  Considering this, I wasn't overly concerned about this whole light turning on situation.  So, I started to climb through the dog door again.  This was met with more butt kicking, more whisper yelling, and tears....lots of them.  I tried to rationalize with her, but she would not let us talk on the side of the house, because, if someone was in the house, they would hear us and then we might be killed. (It's only logical, right?)
So, we went to sit in the car.
Then we fought.
For a long time.
I told Kristina that she could sit in the car and I would go into the house all by myself and check things out.  She didn't even have to come in after me if I didn't make it out alive.  She could even drive away if she wanted.
But she balled her eyes out.
So, we didn't go in.
We just drove around and waited and waited and waited until someone got home.
And, of course, the light had been on all along.

Man, I'm gonna miss that girl.
See, she IS a scaredy cat.
But she is also SO much fun.

Kristina, I love you.  Drive safely.  Don't forget to keep some canned peaches in the car, because you never know if you might drive off the side of the road when no one is around to see it, and be trapped in some ditch for days and starve to death before you are found.
(In case you are wondering, yes, Kristina did always keep a can of peaches in her car in case of such an event.)
They're going to miss each other too.

Good-bye Kristina and Sean.
We love you!
In case you are feeling sorry for us (which you should be), just know that we are only a plane ride away...a free plane ride for Kristina and Sean.  So it will only be a couple of weeks before Kristina is back with us for the weekend of Kim's 21st birthday.
YAY!
