Meet My Family Monday

Meet
Scott Carmack
Scott is the last child of my Uncle George and Aunt Cindy.  He is also an uncle to Sean.  Here is my interview with him.

Me: How old are you?
Scott: 16 at the moment.
Me:Do you have your license?
Scott: No, not yet.  It costs money.
Me: Does your dad drive you around?
Scott: Yeah
Uncle George (chiming in from the bbq): He's got nowhere to go.
Me: What are your hobbies?
Scott: Playing guitar, playing waterpolo, video games with Andrew (cousin) and Matt (brother).  I film sometimes.  Mostly short films, stuff like that.
Me: Tell me about your guitar playing.
Scott:  I will play all kinds of music for fun, but I am best at acoustic, heavy metal, rock type.  I have been playing with a friend for two years, but we haven't been able to play in a band because we can't find a drummer.  One of our friends might be getting a drum set for Christmas, so we will probably be a band when he gets them.
Me: What are some of your favorite bands?
Scott: Escape the Fait, A Day to Remember, Born of Osiris, Haste the Day, Asking Alexandria.
Scott emailed me some links to some of this music, so you can hear them here and here.  I have to say that I am not really a fan of this kind of music, but I actually like these two songs.
Me: Tell me about your film.
Scott: I've done a couple of silent films.  We also made a documentary of a teacher strike.  We are going to try to make a horror film inside our theatre in the next couple of weeks.
Me: How did you get into water polo?
Scott: I got into it because I was on the swim team.  The coach told me I'd like it and would be the kind of person to play.  We just started Spring Training, so this will train me for the next swim season.
Me: What are your summer plans?
Scott: Water polo practice.  I also might do lifeguarding because I am getting certified.
Me: Are you going on the Carmack Family Camping trip?
Scott:  I haven't heard about it.
At this point, I give Scott all the reasons why he should go.
Scott: Ok, I don't think I'm doing anything that weekend, so I'll go.
Me: WOOHOO! Tell me about life at home.
Scott: It's fun.  We have just enough people for a board game.  I like living with Matt because it's kind of like having one of your really good friends always in your house.
Me: What is your favorite memory from being a part of this family?
Scott: I am trying to decide between Christmas, Magic Mountain and swimming at your house.  Those were all big events.  Events with our family are always fun.

Here are some pictures of Scott in his younger days.
He is sitting on my lap in this one.

I can't really find the words to describe this picture, but look at the kid.  Scott is the one with the kazoo hanging out of his mouth, giving Jake bunny ears. There is something seriously hilarious about this picture.  Plus it has Grandpa in it showing his great sense of humor!
Check Scott out in the background of this picture.  That kid could dance!

Thanks Scott for letting me interview you!  I had a lot of fun learning new things about you!

On another note,
Happy Memorial Day!
I have been thinking about Grandpa a lot today.
Remembering him and missing him.
I love you Grandpa!

Tea Party!

Okay, so I have been HORRIBLE about blogging lately.  These last couple weeks feel like they have just exploded into craziness.  I have so much going on with all the end of the year events at school that I feel like I have had no time to do anything else.  But, I wanted to share pictures from the Birthday Tea that my sisters helped plan for me.  I know my birthday was over a month ago, but we used it as an excuse to do something fun with the girls.  So, here is is!
The guests!
We had all kinds of delicious teas to choose from, thanks to Esther sharing her supply with us.
We made little egg salad sandwiches, curry chicken sandwiches, cranberry orange scones with devonshire cream and lemon curd, and white chocolate covered brownie bites.
And of course Kimmy made an AMAZING cake!  It was so cute.
I made hair clips as favors for each of the girls and attached them to the napkins as napkin rings.
My sister Kristina made the invitations, the name cards, and the labels for the tea and food. We put the name cards in little jiffy pots with soil for planting.
We all had a lot of fun sitting around the table drinking tea and talking for a long time.  A lot of the girls did not end up leaving until one o'clock in the morning.  It reminded me of my oh so fun college days.
All the girls with the clips in our hair.

The day was fabulous...we need to do stuff like this more often!
(I am very happy to say that we did not spend a dime on these decorations.  All the flowers came from my backyard, which makes me so happy!)

Happy Birthday Kristina!!!

Today is my sister Kristina's birthday.
She is 24 today.
Crazy!
Here are some things I think you should know about Kristina:
She is insanely talented.
She is a graphic designer and is amazing at what she does.  You can see some of her stuff on her blog, Plum Paper.  She just started it and will have plenty more to come.
She is also very fun and adventurous.
She is funny and creative.
She is a fraidy cat.
One time I gave Kristina a Christmas present and the theme was rain.
She has never stopped making fun of me since.
I personally thought it was an incredible and creative present.

She is married to Sean.
We like him.

She could be a model.

This little picture has a very funny story that I will not share to save Kristina some embarrassment.  I just had to put it on here though.  Ask her about the story sometime....it is really funny!

Happy Birthday Kristina!
I love you!

Homeowners!!!!!!

The process has been so long and rollercoaster-ish that I forgot to announce when it became official.
WE ARE HOMEOWNERS!
We are so excited that everything worked out and we finally can say that our home is ours.
Now we can actually start doing real work to the house.
The first thing we did was tear out part of the jungle that is our backyard so that we could plant a garden.
Nick attacked this corner of the yard and got most of it done in a day.  We have one garbage can for all of our plant waste, and the garbage truck only comes once a week,so we will be filling that thing up every Tuesday for a couple more months before we finally get rid of all of the stuff we ripped out.
I weeded the rosebush area while Nick worked the corner.
THEN...
We planted our amazing garden!
We already have baby tomatoes!
We are such proud parents!
( Well, I am at least.  Nick makes fun of me every time I walk out to look at the garden and gush with pride and excitement at these little babies.)

We needed a trellis for the tomatoes, but we didn't have one.  Being the resourceful, ingenious people that we are, we took the screens off some doors that were on the side of our house and created our very own trellis!
We planted 7 different tomato plants, cucumber, squash, cataloupe, lemon thyme, basil, cilantro, jalapeno peppers, cilantro peppers, sugar snap peas, oregano, and a couple other things that I am forgetting right now.  When this garden grows, we will never have to leave our house to get food.  We will just eat bruschetta and salsa all day long and love it!

Aliso Canyon

Nick and I went on a run/hike about a month ago in Aliso Canyon.  It was so beautiful and green.  We kept saying that we felt like we were on a tropical island (except that it was not hot...and when I am on a tropical island, I do NOT go running because I am too busy laying out).
We ran to the trailhead and then hiked from there. As we hiked further and further up, we could see more and more of Orange County and of Saddleback Mountain.
Once we made it to the top, we had an amazing view of all of Laguna Beach on one side and the rest of Orange County on the other side.

By the time we got to the top, it was cloudy, but still beautiful.  I loved it...until Nick made us run back to the car once we got down the hill.  But, then we went and got Mexican food for dinner. Yum.

Mother's Day

On Sunday, we had the opportunity to have my whole family over to our house for Mother's Day.  This was my first time hosting everyone, and I LOVED it!
We barbequed.
We played badmitton.
And we hung out with some of the best moms in the world!
Happy Mother's Day to all!

Meet My Family Monday

Today you are very lucky to meet one of the cutest members of our family!
Sean is the son of my cousin Beth and her husband Richard. You have not met them yet here on Meet My Family Monday. You have, however, met Sean's Grandma and Grandpa here...my Uncle George and Aunt Cindy. That means that Sean is my first cousin once removed, and he is a great grandchild to my Grandma and Grandpa. (They have 8 great grandkids...you already met the first one, Andrew here). Ok, I don't want to get all complicated on everyone, so I will stop there. All you really need to know is that this kid is CUTE! And, tomorrow is his 3rd birthday. We celebrated yesterday when we had the family over for Mother's Day.
Kimmy made Sean the cutest Backyardigan cake. I'm sure that she will be posting more pictures of it on the Caramel Cup blog soon.
Happy Birthday Sean!

Happy Mother's Day!

I have the best mom in the world!
I love her so much, and I loved spending all day today (and yesterday) with her!  She spent her mother's day slaving away helping me get ready to have the whole family over for Mother's Day dinner.  That is quite a mom!
I love you Mama....more than you could ever know!

I also have the best mother-in-law in the world, who we really missed today.  Thanks for being such a wonderful mom Teri! We will celebrate with you soon!
