Laziness

I know, I know. I promised one last exciting post of the camping trip today. But, it is 11:11 p.m. right now, and I have to wake up early tomorrow....because finally Nick is coming HOME! I am too tired and lazy to go through and choose pictures and edit them and upload them and arrange them and blah, blah, blah. But, I want to achieve my goal, and if I don't post today, I will have failed. That would mean that my ten day blogging bonanza would all be for NOTHING, and that just can't be. So, instead of our hike to Rock Lake on our final day of camping, I will leave you with some pictures from an old roll of film that Nick and I got developed the other day. This was my first backpacking trip EVER! It was about a month after we got married, and it was beautiful.
Now, please don't fret...I will be back with the last day of camping and the promised video footage of Nick. It probably will not be tomorrow though. Tomorrow is all Nick!

Dear Esther

Dear Esther-
You are my best friend and you don't read my blog. You suck...but I still love you!

Camping With the Kinniers Part 3

Now I hate to bore all 3 of you that read my blog, but I do have a couple more posts of our trip to Plumas County. I promise, this is the second to last post about the trip. These pictures were all taken on the Eureka Peak hike. Now, camping with the Kinnier's is not your average camping trip. Not that I would know, considering they are the only people I have every gone camping with. But, when we camp, we pretty much hike every day. As the days go on, this usually involves Nick and Tom having to convince everybody that it will be fun. (Another seven mile hike doesn't sound fun after you have already hiked a couple of days...I'm with you Molly). But, of course it always is fun, even if it is hard.

Relaxing After the Long Hike
(What is with Nick's face?)
Stay tuned tomorrow for our last and final hike to Rock Lake....I'm sure the suspense is killing you. You may even get to see some video footage of Nick jumping off a rock!
By the way, Nick, his friends, and the caribou have made it back safely to civilization. He is in Fairbanks now and will be back Monday! (with 25 pounds of caribou meat)

Camping with the Kinniers Part 2

Our first hike was the Bear Lakes Loop. When we started the hike, the weather was cold, but we didn't really know what we were getting ourselves into. Not only did it rain when we were on this hike, but it actually hailed too. Needless to say, it was FREEZING! Luckily, Nick sacrificed his rain jacket for me so that I would not get wet. Despite the rain, the hike was very beautiful, and we were able to see several sparkling lakes.

On the hike, Nick wanted me to do a little Survivor Woman Video.

Another Letter

Dear Nick-
Thank you for calling me last night. I enjoyed all 5 minutes and 42 seconds of the conversation. We could have talked for 18 more seconds. Oh well. I will get to talk to you tomorrow, and I can't wait. I spent the morning with Grandpa. He was pleasant...except when he couldn't get comfortable in his chair. Then there were a few expletives. He misses Grandma. It's funny how when you get married and become one you don't feel whole without the other person because half of you is gone. I think that Grandpa and I are feeling like this right now. But, at least we both get to look forward to being complete again in the next couple of days. Until then, we'll keep each other company.
So, you have missed some major milestones for me while you have been gone. I can back out of the driveway now without running over the curb. I was having quite a problem with backing up at an angle. But, practice makes perfect. Also, I made it past the first step to changing my last name. I went and got a copy of our marriage license from the courthouse! That really means nothing, but now I have what I need to go to the Social Security Office and do it....maybe tomorrow. (But knowing me, it will probably be another 3 years.)

Is it dumb that I am writing you letters on a blog? I think it probably is, but oh well. No one really reads this blog anyway.

Alright, have fun on your last day on the Yukon....I Love You!

Camping With the Kinniers Part One

In the beginning of August, we went up north to go camping with the whole Kinnier family. We flew from Long Beach to Oakland and then took the train to Davis to meet up with everyone. From there, we drove to Plumas County to camp! I took so many pictures, that I am going to post the trip in seperate parts. There is much to come, I am just too tired tonight to post much now. (School is starting next Wednesday, so I have been working in my classroom everyday.)
Nick had to go fishing the first night...I don't know why. He never has much success with the whole fishing thing.
But he looks good doing it!
Alyssa and I walked on the railroad tracks while Nick fished...since we both walked the whole way without falling off, we decided that we were exempt from dishes that night. (Nobody else really liked that idea).
WOOHOO!!! Nick just called me from the satellite phone they have on their trip. (I think the 5 1/2 minute phone call cost us $15, but it was worth it). He is doing great. They caught a caribou, and they found a cabin to sleep in tonight. They have 1 1/2 more days out on the Yukon River and they will be back to civilization. Then he'll spend the weekend there and come back to me on Monday. I can't wait. Things don't feel right without him here...it's lonely.

Old Roll of Film

Nick and I found an old roll of black and white film the other day. Nick took these pictures the summer we got married (2006), but we never got them developed. I finally took them in the other day and had them put on a cd. I really like the way they turned out. Here are a few highlights!

Garment District in L.A. (I love this place!)

Tonight is night number 5 out of 11 without Nick. Almost half way there!

Letter To My Husband

Nick-
I think that I will write you letters occassionally while you are gone because I don't want to forget to tell you some of the things I think you would like to hear, or to be honest, some of the things I would like you to hear. I wish I could say that you are missing out on so much fun stuff here, but the reality is that you are probably having way more fun floating down the river in Alaska than I am trying to occupy my days to make them go by faster here.

You would have been really proud of me last night when we were at Phil and Anne's. The guys were talking about Mike's message on 1 Corinthians 14 (which we missed while we were camping) and saying that his view on it was similar to William Webb's in Slaves, Women, and Homosexuals. I said, "Oh! You're talking about the redemptive hermeneutic." They were very impressed. So, I sounded smart thanks to you! And, we should listen to the podcast from that week when you get back.

Also, apparently 10:45 is too late to leave from our house in order to get to church by 11:00, especially when you have to stop and get gas too. But, I did find the jungle on our street. It's actually 2 houses that are next door to each other. I'll show you when you get home.

I love you and miss you, and I can't wait until you get home!

Okay, so I am back at it. Blogging on my own personal blog again. I will continue to blog on Caramel Cup, but this blog will be about the life of Nick and me. As I said on Caramel Cup, my goal is to blog at least once a day while Nick is gone on either this blog or Caramel Cup. He's in Alaska until the 31st, so that is 10 blogs for me! Here I go.
